Jordan’s King Abdullah, dismissed his cabinet and nominates ex-army general Marouf al-Bakhit as new prime minister amid large street protests.
The palace said it is a new challenge to Jordan’s new PM Marouf Bakhit to take charged with carrying out "true political reforms".
Thousands of Jordanian protesters had demanded the resignation of former PM Samir Rifai which is blamed on rising prices and unemployment.
But according to country's powerful Islamic opposition movement the protest is not seeking to oust King Abdullah.
In the palace statement, the king had already accepted the resignation of Mr. Rifai.
Mr. Bakhit's mission was "to take practical, quick and tangible steps to launch true political reforms, enhance Jordan's democratic drive and ensure safe and decent living for all Jordanians", the palace said.
