Nowadays, the Quest for peace is one of the major concerns in the world especially in Asia. In the Asia-Pacific Region, the Asia Foundation takes a leading role to promote its conflict management programs. They are engage rigorously in working with leaders, advocates, and organizations in many part of the region. Conflicts which are caused by cultural, political, and social diversity had encouraged the foundation to make crucial advancement in the interest of peace. Peace dialogues or reconciliation dialogues becomes one of the most effective mechanism of the foundation in settling disputes and other peace related issues in Asian communities.
The fact is, in the local involvements, the Asia foundation collaborates with its local counterparts in establishing systematic dialogues in Asia. It involves Nepal, Philippines, China, Thailand, and other Asian country. In Nepal, the peace dialogue is focused in creating a feasible mechanism with support from the Village Development Councils and municipalities. In the Philippines, the foundation is working intimately with academic institutions and non-government organizations (NGOs) in order to provide the necessary information and skills to support local governance and improved the delivery of basic services in the areas affected by tension. In China, in order to solve widespread rural conflicts, the foundation assists in the development of effective and efficient means to guarantee a more transparent process in terms of country’s local public finance. To stop disputes which are linked with environmental issues in Thailand, the foundation acts as a mediator between communities and the agencies responsible for the implementation of environmental projects.
The Asia Foundation has provided assistance to the programs that promote pluralism, compatibility of diverse religious beliefs, and national solidarity to solve ethnics, religious, and political conflicts in other Asian countries.
